The Rio Adventure Lodge in Nicaragua offers a top eco luxury paradise for those seeking a special luxury vacation experience in South America’s stunning jungle. The Rio Indio Adventure Lodge is located in the Indio Maiz Biological Reserve in Nicaragua and offers a special idyllic jungle accommodation. Located on the San Juan River, the Rio Indio Adventure Lodge offers the top luxury vacation spot for a South American adventure – it’s the gateway to the raw wilderness of a natural reserve that’s teeming with wildlife, lush vegetation, giant tarpon and rainbow bass! A truely unique trip – for more details, please ask for the PDF-file.

All along the Caribbean Sea west cost are rivers exiting into the warm sea. This flushing contains a constant food source that is a magnet to local and migrating species. The lodge is ten minutes away around a few turns on the edge of an immense park. The park is controlled by strict laws about harvesting the indigenous species. Sound exotic? Trust us it is as it was, we leave only footprints.

This river mouth is thirty miles north of the Rio Colorado River’s where three lodges fished extensively eventually decimating the fishery. There is no other lodge closer to our area. The river appears brownish from the turbulent exit but we learned years ago that there is a large layer of clear water near the bottom where the predator dart about unseen from the surface. In candor we must admit there is no opportunity to sight fish for the multitude of Tarpon that feed there. Some Tarpon over 200 pounds have been caught….all are released unharmed. There are large Snook that are caught with regularity in the area as well.

A short distance away is a village with a small army installation, stores, communications tower and helicopter pad. In the unlikely event they are needed all of the services are minutes away. In particular the military presence as- sures complete safety from any unwanted boat traffic on the rivers. They maintain check points that must be observed by everyone….even fishers. The dangers of visiting Nicaragua’s jungles from years long ago are non existent now but a part of the interesting history. The second venue that this scouting has to offer is just as exciting. Our choice of rod is the fly rod in nearly every instance; however, the lodge maintains spin, bait casting and fly rods for the guests to use though most prefer to bring their own. We like to take one of the smaller boats and go through myriad channels to lagoons and sections of rivers that are rarely fished. There we cast surface poppers for three primary species, Mojarra, Machaca and Guapote aka. Rainbow Bass.
