It is hard to believe that the Lakshadweep Islands, formerly known as the Laccadives, have remained widely untouched from tourism. The islands are the northernmost of the Lakshadweep-Maldives-Chagos group of islands, which are the tops of a vast undersea mountain range, the Chagos-Laccadive Ridge. A mere 1 1/2 hour flight from mainland India is all that it takes to set foot into the softest coral sand you will ever experience. Stepping of the plane and you find yourself in the famous ”Giant Trevally triangle” of the indian Ocean, the arabian Sea. The Lakshadweep islands are the eastern border of this body of water that is known for its massive GT’s. Just on the other side of the Arabian sea, you will find Southern Oman as well as Socotra, both known for their unimaginable fish size on heavy popping equipment.
The Lakshadweeps compromise an uncountable amount of fishing opportunities that range as far as surfcasting to trolling. We keep things relatively simple. Within the boundaries of the reef, we do fish fly and light tackle spinning although we keep the flats exclusively for fly anglers. We do patrol the reef and swell-areas with smaller dinghis. Both Popping, jigging and for those who want to seek the ultimate thrill, a flyrod-equipment can be put through its paces. While in transit or stationary, trolling and bottom fishing can be done to make your fishing trip a 24hr experien.
Prime targets for Fly fishing is Giant Trevally, Bluefin & other Trevallies, Bonefish, Triggerfish, Milkfish, Red Seabass, Indopacific Permit, Sailfish and various Tuna Species to count a few. Popping and Jigging Anglers are all about GT, Dogtooth Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Jobfish, Coral Trout, Grouper, Snapper, Sharks, Spanish Makrele, Wahoo, Mahi Mahi, Sailfish, Amberjacks…amongst others. And the of course we have the spectacular Napoleon Wrassie roaming the waters all over the Lakshadweep archipelago!
Flemming is the CEO of XXL Adventure in Norway, and a very avid fly fisherman. He grew up as a trout fisherman, and as an adult he started to travel. He has fished all continents of the earth, but thrives best on the flats, looking for saltwater species. In Norway he fishes for trout, salmon, grayling, char and northern pike, and the rest of the year ha chases permit, tarpon, GT, bonefish etc. Even a big blue marlin and several rooster fish has been landed. He is also a former fly tying- and fly casting teacher. Flemming has hosted many trips, and will gladly share his knowledge from saltwater fishing around the world..
