Las Salinas is located in the Zapata National Park in the south of Cuba. This unique pristine and totally unspoilt area has been and still is protected by the Cuban government.

In 2004 a small area close to the harbor was opened for fly fishing only but due to the very shallow flats no motor boats have been used meaning even this area is mostly unexplored. From August 2011, Solid Adventures and Planet Fly Fishing, in cooperation with local company Batida travel, have got the exclusive rights to fish and explore almost the whole Las Salinas area. This is a truly unique and one off experience for anyone wanting to fish some of the best Bone fish flats in the world, casting at fish that have never seen a fly before!

On the map above, you can see how the area has been divided. The right and left parts (A & B) will be our exclusive area and the smaller area in the centre, near the marina will still remains to the former Cuban operations.

We know for sure that the area near the harbor holds amazing amounts of Bonefish in the 3 – 7 lbs range and the average angler can expect somewhere between 5 – 20 landed Bonefish per day. We also know that there is Permit patrolling this area and one can expect at least a few good chances of casting at one. However, what is really interesting about Las Salinas is the vast area still not fished or properly scouted. During our very limited scouting in the until today closed areas we have seen amazing numbers of Bones, which we kind of expected, but also Snook, Permit and Baby Tarpon cruising the flats and hiding in the mangroves.

FOUR NEW SINGLE SKIFF BOATS

To get access to all the areas of Las Salinas there are four brand new single skiffs (flat boats) taking one angler and one guide per boat. These skiffs are equipped with 15 hp engines enabling us to go wherever we want in the area.

Flats fishing: Most of the flats are very shallow with hard and clear bottom. This means most fishing will be done wading on the flats. 4 boats/ 4 anglers.

River tarpon fishing: Fishing Rio Hatiguanico will be done from boat. This river is a real treasure chest holding all kind of fish – Baby Tarpon, Tarpon, Snook, Snapper, Jack and more! 1 boat/ 2 anglers.
