The challenge and beauty with Rio Gallegos is to land huge sea trouts on light tackle, and this is what attracts more and more anglers from all over the world to pay a visit to our Las Buitreras Lodge.
After 11 seasons of running the camp at Las Buitreras it is very clear to us: Using light tackle like a single-hand rod or light double-hand rod while keeping wading to a minimum will catch you more fish! It’s as simple as that! The fish are there, but splashing a long two-hand line on the surface will not do you any favours. This fishing is as technical as it gets, but at the same time it is also very easy! You don’t have to be the best caster in the world to catch fish, you only need to keep it quiet and controlled. As long as you keep contact with and keep moving the fly, wade as little as possible and perhaps even listen to the guides a little you will have great chances of success!
Over the years we have been very spoiled using only certain sections of our available water. This means we have been able to offer many of our guests more or less unfished waters for most of their sessions. And, there is still a lot of water to be discovered and tested under varying conditions. How many world class stretches of fishing can say that?
The new local regulations and the improved protection has definitely meant more and bigger fish in the river and when the conditions are right you better hold on to your rod!
The Las Buitreras Lodge is in a class of its own and a perfect haven to come back to after a days fishing. The quality of food and drinks is top class and our friendly staff is always there to help you.
To put it in short, welcome to my personal piece of heaven!
Tight lines
Christer
